[ essay 1 ]

The large media coverage today provides us with up-to-date information, and helps keep us informed of the times. At the same time, it is a worrying proof that the media can largely influence the way of thinking and sometimes mislead us in a wrong way. The mass media today need to be more or less regulated for the following reasons.

First, there should be limits on what can be seen in the media. Publishing materials with too much violence and messages of hatred can have negative influences on many people, especially minors. Violence scenes obtained by TV or movies might encourage them to commit more crimes, while the musicians or celebrities shown in the media may lead them to form bad habits, such as smoking or drinking.

Moreover, the media can have power to portray women and minority groups as degrading or disgraceful characters. Women are sometimes treated without respect in the certain media or religious groups might be depicted by the media from the biased viewpoint. The public are easily influenced by what they see and inclined to believe what can be seen in the media.

In this day of democracy, freedom of speech must be respected, and too much regulation on the media shouldn't be tolerated. However, considering the fact that the mass media has so much influence on the way of our thinking, there should be certain regulation on shameful materials to protect minors or minorities.

[ essay 2 ]

The development of the mass media has dramatically changed the world. Thanks to this advancement, we can get a wide variety of information from all over the world easily and quickly. Some people, however, worry if the mass media can cause some problems, and they suggest that it should be regulated strictly. Personally, I think the regulation of the media doesn't have to be so strict. Let me explain why.

First of all, the mass media can help to keep the world safe and peaceful. Today, the world faces the threat of terrorist attacks anytime and anywhere. Once the incident occurs, it can cause serious damage to buildings and kill a number of people. Although it is very difficult to track down these activities, the mass media can help us to do so. It can inform the public of the potential activities and help avoid them in advance. With this corporation, the activities are limited and the police can clamp down on them more easily.

Secondly, just as everyone has the right to speak and listen freely, mass media also should have the right to it. Without freedom of the press, the information we can get would be limited and we would have fewer choices to think which information is right or wrong.

Although some people think more regulation of the media is necessary, I think it should not be so strict. In fact, It is better to lighten regulations against it, It can help to make our lives safe and receive more information from which we can decide which can be trusted.

[ essay 3 ]

Regulation of violence and objectionable material in the media is a concern these days with growing use of the Internet and coverage by a growing number of sources. I would like to address this issue.

First of all, we must acknowledge the value and importance of having a free and fair media. No one supports government censorship, and indeed, certain countries are strongly criticized when they engage in it.

However, I think most people would agree there must be some limits. Attacks on and offensive depictions of various groups in society shouldn't be tolerated. Violence and hatred, and materials that encourage this, have no place in the media. Also, traditional cultures of other people, whether in or outside your own country, should be respected. Similarly, people who are generally less advantaged in society, such as women and minority groups, should not become targets of degrading or offensive depictions since they don't have equal means to defend themselves.

In conclusion, regulation by law is not practical or possible, but the media doesn't have the right to engage in hate-mongering. The media itself must exercise self-restraint, and the consumers themselves must take it known when the media is going too far.

[ essay 4 ]

Everyone has a right to know, and the media coverage helps us get to know whatever is happening in the world. I don't think any more regulation on media will be needed.

First of all, freedom of the press must always be respected, and they should be free from strict regulation or censorship. In this day of democracy, everyone must be allowed to say what they want to, and the media should have the same right as anyone else.

On the other hand, disclosure of personal information in the media should be regulated to some degree. Especially, the coverage of juvenile crime must be dealt with carefully, since that might make it hard for the minor criminals to come back to society.

Furthermore, the mass media have an obligation to disclose the information of the terrorrists to protect the safety of the country. By obtaining the information about terrorists, the safety is ensured, and will enhance the national security.

In conclusion, I don't think that more regulation of the media is necessary. "Freedom of the press" should be respected as long as they keep us informed with careful deliberation.
