[ essay 1 ]

It is generally said that the world is not easy for women. Although women have been treated more equally than before, they are still facing some difficulties. This essay will look at challenges facing modern women in Japan.

First of all, it is very difficult for women to keep their jobs after they give birth because of inefficient child care system. Child care services, today, are so expensive that most people cannot afford it. Even if some people manage to afford it, the service hours are limited, so parents, who have to work until late at night, don't have anywhere to leave their children while they are working.

Secondly, when women work for a company, they might face the glass ceiling. Society still places emphasis on men as leading roles, so even though women work very hard and contribute a lot to the company, they might be passed up for promotions.

Lastly, job openings for women are also limited. Generally, a company prefers hiring male workers who would work for them longer than women. Therefore, in many cases, women have to give up seeking a full time job and end up as temporary workers.

In conclusion, there are many challenges facing modern women. It is very important for us to think of these problems and try to solve them, in order to make women's lives better.

[ essay 2 ]

Japanese society is changing in many ways. Some of the changes present new opportunities for women, but also create difficulties, which prevent true equality between men and women.

The most obvious challenges women face today is inequality in the work place. Although some improvement has been made over the years, Japanese women on average earn less than most men do. Also, many Japanese women face a glass ceiling in their workplace, which prevents them from being promoted to managerial positions. Despite the fact that modern women are often highly educated, they are underrepresented in the business and political world.

Another difficulty for modern women is that they are mostly responsible for child care. In most cases, it is rare, or not allowed, for men to take leave to care for their newborn children. Moreover, women are traditionally expected to quit their jobs after giving birth, and stay at home doing the housework, while men keep working to support their families financially. We need to ensure both male and female parents can take time off without backlash, either from the employer or their fellow workers.

Japan is becoming an aging society, so women will be increasingly called upon to join the work force as well as care for both the young and the aging members of their families. Society must do more to lessen the difficulties of modern women.
