Should school teachers share the responsibility of parenting?

 

POINTS:

 

Nowadays, it is not uncommon that both parents have their own jobs working outside their homes. With this trend, school teachers are generally expected to play a larger role in parenting. Desipte that, I don't believe that they should share so much responsibility for it.

 

First, it is impossible for school teachers to look after their students individually. There are all kinds of children in school. They have different backgrounds and different personalities. Therefore, each child must be taken care of in different ways. In school, teachers have to deal with so many students at the same time that they cannot pay careful attention to every student. Parents, on the other hand, spend much more time with their children at home, and they are more familiar with their needs and problems. As a result, parents can teach their children moral values and discipline them more effectively.

 

Second, a school is basically the place where students learn academic subjects, and teachers cannot spend so much time on parenting in today's school curriculum. In this day of globalization, students are expected to learn foreign languages, and knowledge of math and science is indispensable for succeeding in this competitive society. The current curricula are already full of things students have to learn and there is no room for teachers to teach other than academics.

 

In addition, a school should be the place to learn how to socialize with others, and it is prefereable that parents teach their children common values before their schooling begins. For example, teachers are mainly responsible for helping students learn how to work together on a particular project and share tasks with other students. On the other hand, parents should take charge of teaching basic rules in society, such as not hurting other people's feelings.

 

In conclusion, students go to school to learn academic subjects and improve social skills, and school teachers shouldn't spend so much time taking care of students' basic needs. Literally, it is parents that should take most of the responsibility of parenting.
