[6]   [2021-3 B] Agree or disagree: Stem-cell research will revolutionize medical science
Agree

First, There is great potential associated with stem-cell research. For example, stem-cell research can lead to further advancement of genetic engineering or regenerative medicine. There are many people today suffering a lot from diseases caused by faulty genes or DNA, which is currently thought not to be curable. The lastest technology from stem-cell research, however, can make it possible to replace such defective genes or organs with healthy ones. Thanks to this, many lives can be saved and more people can stay healthy and live long.

Second, there are a wide range of applications associated with stem-cell research. With the advancement in genetic engineering, for instance, it could be possible to create a human being in a laboratory setting. Although some people may aruge that this can raise ethical issues, still many people can benefit from it. For example, infertile couples who struggle to have a baby or even gay couples can be given a change to have a child.

[ Disgree ]

First of all, it is ethically wrong to promote stem-cell research. Stem cell research is closely related to regnerative medicine where damaged cells or defective cells can be replaced with new ones. Although there are great potential benefits to the medical field, many people think it wrong that we humans manipulate cells that make up the human body. In addition, long-term effects of such treatment on the human body have not fully been known and it can have negative effects on the body in the long run.

Second, stem cell research can encourage commercialism. For example large companies engaging in stem-cell research might advertise their products or services in order to make huge proficts. Plus, since this kind of treatment costs a lot, only rich people can afford to do it and benefit from it. This indicates that the gap between rich and poor people in terms of medical treatemt wil become bigger. Wealthy people are more likely to stay healthy and live long, while poor people suffer a lot from diseases and die young.

[ Speech 1 ]

The issue of human cloning has been controversial over the past few decades. I know there are some negative aspects to human cloning, but I'm still for it. I believe the benefits of cloning outweigh the disadvantages.

First, technology of human cloning can be used for medical treatment. For example, if you have a heart problem and need to have the organ replaced, you might get a new one which will be produced by cloning technology. The new heart can be produced by using your own cells or DNA, so if you have it implanted in your body, you won't have any rejection after the operation. Therefore, when this technology can be put to use, millions of people, who need to have their organ replaced, will be saved.

Second, cloning technology can help people who want to have a child. For instance, infertile couples, which mean couples, who cannot have a baby because of physical problems, can have a child with this technology. I think it is fair because if you have the right to have a child, they also must have the right to it. Similarly, I also believe that homosexual couples should be given the chance to have a baby. The technology of human cloning can be used to support human rights for everybody to have babies..

For these reasons, I support human cloning. I understand some people are strongly against human cloning because there are ethical problems and potential risks concerning cloning technology. However, human cloning can be use in many good ways. I think it is such a waste if we stop the research of the promising technology, just because there are some small problems. Thank you for your attention.

I'm against human cloning. There are two reasons why I believe so [ this ].

The first is a medical concern. [reason]. I believe that our scientific knowledge is not quite complete. A lot of efforts and attempts would be needed to make a successful clone, and at the same time, it would cost a fortune before making a clone successfully. Instead of investing in such a wild-goose chase, I think the money should be spent on more realistic issues like the fight against poverty or medication for AIDS.

The second reason is an ethical concern. There are still so many unsolved questions about how people will treat clones and why we need to make them at all. For example, it is questionable if you try to make use of clone technology when you lost a beloved one to replace him with a clone. Also, since a human clone is not born naturally, he or she might lose identity as a human being, or feel alienated at least, in the worst case, they might be the target of bullying.

For the two reasons, I don't support human cloning now. But, I'm NOT saying that we shouldn't continue research in this field. This technology is quite new right now, but potentially very beneficial to people in the future and the enviornment. With our further advanced technology and wisdom, these concerns I mentioned earlier can be solved in the future.
