[267]   [2011-1 B] Does the Internet promote democracy?
Almost everybody uses the Internet today, and thanks to this, we can exchange our ideas and opinions beyond borders of countries. Given the fact that democracy is a predominant political policy around the world today, the Internet is surely one of the best tools to promote this policy.

First of all, even in a country where the government doesn't support democracy, the people have a chance to learn what it would be like to be democratic. It is true that the government in those countries tries to regulate the content of the internet, but it is also true that many people there know the way to get full access to the internet, using anti-filter for example. This means, using the Internet, more people have the opportunity to learn about democratic ideas, and more would be encouraged to believe in it.

As for the content they can find in the Internet, it is also a good way to promote democracy. In a democratic country, everyone has a say in almost anything, and it's people, not the government, that have power to change the country. It is probably amazing for people living in undemocratic countries. They find people talking freely, sometimes criticizing the government in discussion rooms online, and they are encouraged to know more about democracy, and what it would be like to live in a democratic country.

There might be other ways to promote democracy, but since people from all over the world use the Internet today, I believe it is the best way to promote democratic ideas.
