[246]   [2011-3 A] Has human impact on the natural environment been exaggerated?
Environmental problems are often a topic of heated debate, and human activities are very often to blame for environmental destruction. However, I believe human impact on the natural environment has been a little bit too exaggerated.

Of course, it is true that many natural environments like rivers or forests are polluted, and many species are in danger of extinction due to human activities, but people tend to focus less on how much efforts are being made to save the environment. Many governments started to regulate the amount of carbon dioxide emission, and encourage people to use solar panels with subsidies. And research on alternative energy resources to fossil fuels is ongoing. Also, environmentalists or groups try to raise public awareness of environmental issues. Thanks to their effort and dedication, the negative impact caused by humans to the environment is getting less significant.

Also, the natural environment is much more resilient than we think it will be. Unless we cause any more damage to the environment, I believe that nature has the recuperative power to heal itself, and return to normal. Many species will adapt to changing environment. We humans also will have a way to adapt ourselves to environmental changes in the long run.

What is the most important today is try not to harm the environment any more, and if we keep that in mind all the time, I believe human impact on the natural environment won't be so much cause for concern in the long run.
