[233]   [2012-2 B] Should poor nations be responsible for their own development?
In one sense, the world is divided into two groups; developing countries and developed nations. On humanitarian grounds, rich nations are helping poorer counterparts with monetary aid, food provision, technology and expertise. At the same time, I believe poor nations should take responsibility for their own development.

First, the development of the country is always accompanied with environmental problems. Factories can produce air and water pollution, which does harm to human health. Extreme consumption of natural resources can accelerate the depletion of natural resources and lead to global warming. As with developed countries, developing countries are also responsible for reducing pollution and consumption of carbon dioxide.

Second, the governments in developing countries must make efforts to reach an international consensus in terms of development. Stem cell research is strictly regulated in most countries, and nuclear development should be regularly monitored by international inspectors. Any development without international understanding and agreement shouldn't be tolerated. The developing nations are responsible for meeting international standard.

In conclusion, developed countries are often criticized for being "hypocrites" by developing nations, but it is not that developing countries can do whatever they want to for their development. They are also responsible for it, and both parties must work together to keep the world a safe place.
