[231]   [2012-2 A] Will religion have a bigger influence on global politics in the future?
It is true that there are still some countries like Iran where a government is strongly connected to religion, but considering the global trend, religious influence on politics will be smaller and smaller in the future.
First of all, most of the developed countries today lead a government with a separation of religion and politics, and it's becoming a matter of course. Most countries, of course including Japan, already know the government led by a religious leader won't go well and last long. And from history, we all learned to know the government with strong religious influence causes a lot of trouble. In many cases, citizens in these countries suffer a lot in the name of religious causes, and only the people in high-rank of the government enjoy all the benefits. In this day of globalization, such countries are hard to survive and will be criticized by the whole world.

Second, in the terms of globalization, relationships with other countries are more and more important, and the government led by a religious leader will have trouble keeping good relations with other countries. As we all know, there are many different kinds of religions with different beliefs, so it would be very hard to agree or make a compromise with other countries if the government were mainly based on religious beliefs. In today's globalized world, such countries are again hard to survive.

I believe there are both good and bad aspects to believing in religion, but when it comes to politics based on religions. I don't think it brings out a good outcome. Most people already know it, so religion will have a less influence on global politics in the future.

I don't think religion will have a bigger influence on global politics in the future. On the contrary, religion would be less and less influential on politics around the world.

Firstly, we have already learned to know, throughout history, that political decisions made in the name of God brought about negative outcome to humanity. People waged wars, killing each other in the cause of religious beliefs. Ethnic cleansing or persecution was justified, believing that one religion is superior to another. Conflicts, because of religious differences, are still around the world today, but most people today started to realize that politics separated from religion can bring peace and stability to the world.

Next, a separation of religion and politics is becoming a global standard, and more countries will recognize its good quality of the policy in the future. In this day of globalization, countries around the world will have to work together more often, and the government with strong religious influence will have difficulty keeping up with the world trend. For the economy growth, and prosperity, more countries will come to choose politics free of religious influence.

For these reasons, I believe religion will have a smaller influence on global politics in the future.
