[172]   Can racial discrimination be totally eliminated from society?

Throughout history, racial discrimination has been seen anywhere all over the world. Despite all the efforts to eliminate discrimination, little headway is being made. I believe it is impossible that society is free from discrimination.

First, looking back on world history, we can learn how certain minorities were discriminated and persecuted on ground of their races. For example, Jewish people were segregated and a large number of them were eventually killed just because they were thought to be inferior.

Second, people often form a group by discriminating others from their own. In order to foster solidarity, they tend to show hostility to other groups and by doing so, they develop camaraderie. In other ways, it is important for a group to discriminate others to make a strong bond among members.

Lastly, the media can create negative images of racial minorities. For instance, they often exaggerate crimes or misdemeanor by people from the minorities and lead people to have negative feelings against the minority, though it is often biased or based on prejudice.

For these reasons, I believe racial discrimination cannot be totally eliminated from society. Nevertheless, it doesn't mean we can neglect the effort to alleviate discrimination. It is imperative that we make the utmost to try to eradicate prejudice from the world.
