Living in a free country like Japan, we, most of us, often believe that an economic system based on capitalism is much better than communism or socialism. With a closer look, however, it is not always fair to all.

In capitalism, everyone is allowed to compete in a free market and given a chance to get rich, but in reality, only a small percentage of people are rich and successful, and the majority of them always stay poor and unsuccessful. Rich families are allowed to give their children better education, so that they can have better job with high salaries and get rich. On the other hand, children from the poor family fail to receive high education, and end up with low-waged jobs. In many countries with capitalism, this gap is increasing.

 

Moreover, in capitalism, companies or owners of business always seek profits, and they tend to take advantage of their employees. Under harsh working conditions, they are forced to work many hours. They might be replaced by other workers when their employers find better or more productive workers. In this sense, business is done only for the employer's benefit, and without much regulation, this free and competitive market might lead to illegal laid-off, which might contribute to high unemployment rates and high crime rates.

 

For these reasons, I believe capitalism is NOT fair to all people. In fact, there are always pros and cons to any economic systems. Capitalism, communism, and socialism, have their own good and bad points. To the best of my knowledge, or all I could say so far is that, there is no perfect economic system yet in society.
