Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gases are necessary in our modern life. Thanks to this, we can get energy to light homes, drive cars, and use many other things. However, I believe fossil fuels do more harm than good. There are two reasons why I believe so.

The first reason is that burning fossil fuels greatly contribute to global warming. Today, global warming is one of the serious world issues which should be tackled as soon as possible. With world temperatures rising at the current rate, some small islands will be submerged under the sea, and extreme climate changes will cause a lot of problems in the near future. Therefore, when we try to stop global warming, fossil fuels are nothing but a curse. We have to think about how we can reduce the consumption of fossil fuels to address the issue.

 

The second reason is that fossil fuels cause air pollution. In some industrial countries, they consume a lot of fossil fuels to keep their factories active. These factories produce a huge amount of air pollution, and many people living near there are reported to be suffering from sickness, such as lung cancer, asthma, or pneumonia. Therefore, using fossil fuels is bad for the health. In order to keep us healthy, we have to make efforts to limit the use of fossil fuels.

 

In conclusion, I believe fossil fuels are not so much a blessing as a curse, because they cause global warming and air pollution. Instead of relying too much on fossil fuels, I think we should depend more on nuclear power. I know some people are worried about a nuclear accident, but as far as I know, France relies on nuclear power, about 70% the amount of energy consumed in the countries, but no accident has been reported. Even if there are other problems associated with nuclear power, we can overcome them in the future.
