[ Speech 1 ]

One day, a woman was at home with her husband and baby. There were many utility bills spread out on the table, and they were both sitting at the table. The woman was holding her baby, and her husband looked very concerned. He asked her if she would be able to go back to work soon, and she thought it wouldn't be so easy with her baby, but nodded to say she would start to work again.

A few days later, the woman's husband just got back from work. The woman was telling him that all the local nurseries were full, and he looked disappointed.

That weekend, the woman's husband was showing her an advertisement in the newspaper for a nursery that would open soon. The woman looked pleased when he told her that the nursery was near her office.

A month later, however, the woman was on her way to work during the rush hour, and she had to take a train that was very crowded with other commuters. She was pressed by the passengers on the train, while her baby was crying.

[ speech 2 ]

One day, a woman was at home with her husband and baby. Both of them were sitting at the table talking about the bills they got for that month. The man was holding one of the bills, and said to his wife, "Can you go back to your company soon?" His wife thought that she had no choice but to go back to work to support the family, and nodded and agreed with his suggestion.

A few days later, when the man came home from work, the woman was waiting at the table. She showed him a list of local nurseries she wrote down on a piece of paper, saying none of them were available. They both looked concerned.

That weekend, the man found an article in the newspaper that said a new nursery was going to open soon. He said to his wife, "it's near your office." She was excited about the opportunity.

A month later, she had started to go back to work. After work, she went to the nursery to pick up her baby. It was already 7 in the evening. On the way back home, she was on the train with a full of passengers. She was holding her crying baby and carrying a stroller. She thought it was very hard to work while taking care of her baby.

[ Questions ]

No.1 Please look at the fourth picture. If you were the mother, what would you be thinking?

I'd be thinking that I can't do this every day. I'll have to go to work early to avoid rush hour, or keep looking for a nursery close to my home.

No.2 Should parents be strict with their children?

No. It's important for children to have rules, but if children are disciplined too much and told what to do all the time, they will be less able to make their own decisions later in life as adults.

No.3 Are men and women treated equally in the workplace these days?

No. Companies claim they don't discriminate against women, but some give them less responsibility because they think women will quit when they have children.

No.4 Do you think that society is more dangerous today than it was in the past?

Yes. People used to feel safe, but violence and crime have become common in society today. Nowadays, many people are afraid to go out alone at night.
